Francisca del Espiritu Santo
A brief biography.
Francisca del Espiritu Santo was born in Manila as the daughter of captain Simon de Fuentes and Ana Maria Tamayo del Castillo, 1647. After a short marriage without children and having been a widow, she devoted her life to the sick and poor people and the youth.
She joined the Third Order of Saint Dominic in 1682 and formed a small group of women, but met with opposition when she tried to found a congregation for Philippine girls.
Thanks to her example and perseverance she built her monastery Beatorio de Sta. Catalina de Sena in Manila, 1696.
She died 24th August 1711.
