Las Caldas de Besaya
sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Las Caldas de Besaya
protected by the Dominicans
A brief description.
The village (Las) Caldas de Besaya is situated in the province Cantabria, Spain. The Dominicans protected the sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Las Caldas de Besaya since 1605.
They built a church in 1683 with a Latin-cross plan, and the Churrigueresque altarpieces, possibly the work of Antonio de Valdecilla. The sanctuary is characterized by its rich décor with markedly projected plasterwork on its vaults, which makes it one of the most typical Baroque buildings in Cantabria.
