The original construction of the silver cabinet for the church Santissima Annunziata in Florence. – the Armadio degli Argenti -, is probably commissioned by Piero de’Medici in 1448. Two doors which opened outwards were to be decorated by Fra Angelico, and payment was made for this in 1453.Fra Angelico would have accepted the commission, but as always, in undertakings involving so much work, studio assistants would have been entrusted with it.
In total there were 40 panels, 38,5 x 37 cm and 1 of 38,5 x 74 cm.
There are 9 panels certainly by Fra Angelico; 3 by Alesso Baldovinetti (The Baptism of Christ ,The wedding in Cana, and Christ's glorification, perhaps also the six panels of this group), and 23 by another painter or members of the studio of Fra Angelico. perhaps after cartons of Fra Angelico.
